Politics in the Book

For Reasons Unknown is a novel by David R. Phillips

If you are looking for a book that is heavy on politics, this is NOT the place for you.  My attempt is to entertain you with a good story and mix in a little political information to get you to think about the issue.  I also attempt to present the politics in an even keeled fashion by letting different characters demonstrate all the “sides” of an issue.  Being even keeled in politics is almost impossible because the reader has opinions that will come into play when they read the text.  In addition, I have opinions that come through in the text no matter how hard I try to be unbias.

Each reader will get a different slant to the politics in the book.  You will be convinced that I have a political agenda at some points and think I am brilliant at others depending on whether you agree or disagree with the position I am covering.  I have a healthy contempt for politics and politicians, so I try to present positive and the negative of every side.  Sometimes the book will anger you and other times you will think the writer clearly understands the issue.  No matter what reaction you have to the politics in this book, it will make you think about the issue in a different way because I try to expose the reasons behind the politics.

In For Reasons Unknown, I deal with the simple issue of drilling for oil in the Artic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR).  There are lots of reasons we should be mining oil in ANWR and lots of reasons we shouldn’t.  Unfortunately, none of these reasons are actually mentioned by the politicians and media when discussing the issue.
